Information for all Adjunct Faculty concerning their Pension

Adjunct faculty who are currently enrolled in PERS as a result of their employment as adjunct faculty must elect to choose to remain in PERS or move into the Alternate Benefit Plan within 30 days of the date of their appointment this Spring semester. All newly hired Adjunct Faculty or those who were not yet eligible to participate in PERS will automatically be enrolled in the Alternate Benefit Plan.

Adjunct faculty who are in TPAF and employed by a school district should not check off the box on the top part of the form provided by the State that states that they are in TPAF. This is because that is their primary employment. If they have been receiving PERS contributions as a result of working as an adjunct faculty member and wish to move to the Alternate Benefit Plan, they should check off the PERS box and choose an ABP investment carrier.

Adjunct faculty whose main source of employment is either another State agency, a county or municipality and participate in PERS as a result of that employment should elect to remain in PERS for their adjunct faculty employment. They should only fill out the bottom half of the two-part form.

We are still awaiting word from the Division of Pension & Benefits if the same enrollment process will take place for the Fall semester for those adjunct faculty who did not teach in the Spring semester.

As a reminder, the November 2008 Voice article regarding these changes and information about the ABP investment carriers was detailed.

Since you only have until February 18th to make a decision and submit the necessary forms, you need to take action now.
